Rusting Steel Frame, Specialist Stone Restoration
Triton were appointed to carry out remedial stonework repairs at 20 Finsbury Circus, 40 Blomfield Street, London, following investigation works into fractured stonework to the ground floor columns.
The works included the careful removal of defective stone units, exposing the rusting steel frame behind. The steel was mechanically cleaned, treated with protective primer, and fitted with stainless steel restraints to prevent further corrosion issues.
Replacement Portland stone units were manufactured to match the existing stonework, then lifted into position, bedded on lime based mortar and secured with stainless steel dowels. On completion, the new stonework was repointed using crushed stone dust and Natural Hydraulic Lime, restoring both the structure and appearance of the ground floor columns.
