Grade II*

The Harpur Centre is a prominent shopping centre in the heart of Bedford town centre, incorporating the retained façade of the former Bedford Modern School, designed by Edward Blore and built between 1831 and 1834.

Over time, the historic façade has been affected by weathering, age related deterioration and localised stress within the stonework. Areas of the tower and projecting masonry elements showed signs of cracking, movement and surface breakdown, with some defects linked to previous repairs and concealed ferrous fixings.

Triton is carrying out façade restoration works to address these issues, including stone cleaning, masonry repairs, crack repairs, repointing, consolidation and the treatment or replacement of defective fixings where required. The works are being delivered within a live retail environment, with the centre remaining open to the public throughout.
