Grade I
Commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1861 as a memorial to her late husband, King Albert, the Royal Albert Memorial is a Grade II listed memorial designed by George Gilbert Scott and sculpted by John Bell. This high-Victorian gothic statue, situated in Kensington Gardens and facing the Royal Albert Hall, underwent extensive restoration by Triton.
Triton’s work focussed on cleaning, repointing, and replacing various marble elements, including intricate friezes, marble statuary, and pedestal bases positioned at each corner of the memorial. The restoration extended to encompass the industrial arts and the continents. Carved elements and incidents were meticulously repaired or replaced to restore the memorial’s original state.
This ambitious project not only revitalised the Royal Albert Memorial but also served as a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication required to safeguard historical and cultural treasures for future generations.
