Triton were appointed to undertake the cleaning and external refurbishment of Whitehall, at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Specialist stone cleaners, masons, restorers, and conservators, amongst other trades, implemented a top-grade building conservation specification at Whitehall, using traditional materials and techniques.
At a high level, the first trades encountered were the restorers and lead workers. Once the lead was stripped away from weathering courses and projections, Triton’s experienced team of restorers cut out and renewed defective moulded sections of Portland stone, before the reinstatement of lead cappings, with copper details as necessary.
The conservators were responsible for looking after the fine details of the statue of Queen Victoria which, in places had lost several millimetres of stone from the original surface, as well as removing deep stains and old anti-bird gel from the statuary using specially made Triton poultices.
