The Lyceum Theatre
Strand, London WC2
This Grade II* Listed building, designed by Samuel Beazley, is one of numerous theatres restored by Triton.
The stucco façade and parapet displayed distinct signs of deterioration, confirmed by hammer testing, and the first task was to entirely remove numerous thick layers of paint to establish the extent of disrepair.
The brickwork comprising the parapet was in an extremely advanced state of decay and sections needed to be rebuilt. Plain stucco were hacked off and reinstated with three coats of progressively weakening lime mortar and moulded details, including Corinthian capitals, corbel brackets and door surrounds were carefully restored to their original profiles.
All flashings to the string courses and cornices were renewed in Code 5 lead and all joinery repaired as necessary. In accordance with our Trade Partnership Agreement, redecoration was carried out with Dulux Weathershield products.
Within the portico area, a large ornate lantern and chandeliers were also fully overhauled.
To complete, anti-pigeon wires and spikes were installed on all susceptible areas.
