Battersea Arts Centre
Lavender Hill, London SW11
This former Town Hall, dated 1892-93, is considered to be one of the finest buildings in the Borough of Wandsworth and it notable for the fine figurative sculpture to the pediment and spandrels.
With a brief to complete the main contract cleaning and refurbishment works in time for the centenary celebrations, Triton controlled 12 separate trades, including restoration of the decayed Bath stone elements and the oak framed copper dome. In addition, a non-destructive investigation of the main entrance portico confirmed a rusting steel frame, for which careful dismantling, remedial blast cleaning, rust proofing treatment and reconstruction works were required.
